Stéréotypes
Jusqu'à présent, il me semblait que la vision de la France à Taiwan correspondait à l'image renvoyée par les belles vitrines des grands magasins. Un peuple de mannequins vêtus de tailleurs haute couture et possédant une collection de sacs à mains de créateurs. Se nourrissant de repas gastronomiques, s'abbreuvant de grands crus et raffolant de produits cosmétiques. La beauté et la mode sont des des concepts qui s'exportent bien, surtout lorsqu'ils en portent la marque et le prix. Mais voilà, comme partout il faut se méfier des stéréotypes...

Au détour d'une tasse
J'ai croisé Meihui et ses amis qui m'ont invités à partager une tasse de thé au détour d'un sentier. Il faut savoir qu'un randonneur taiwanais ne se déplace jamais sans un réchaud, une gamelle et un service à thé en porcelaine, ne serait-ce que pour une ballade d'une heure. Cela explique pourquoi ils ont toujours de gros sacs. Enfin, j'étais tout de même invité par un groupe d'amis plutôt atypiques, passant le plus clair de leur temps à faire des randonnées, des voyages et des sorties culturelles... Or les Taiwanais ne sont pas franchement bohêmes, pas du tout même : la caravane, le camping-car et même le bâteau de plaisance sont des choses totalement inconnues par ici. Et apprenant que je suis français, Meihui me raconte son périple de deux mois en France sur les traces de Claude Monet. Elle appréciait particulièrement Honfleur et la chapelle de Ronchamp, et je dû lui avouer que beaucoup de français ignoraient l'existence même de ces lieux !

Baba cool taiwanaise
Le soir je passai la nuit dans le gîte de Linda, qui est une vraie baba cool - façon taiwanaise. Elle porte des jupes tricotées à grosses fleurs, et conduisait une coccinelle. Sa roulotte, elle l'a construite et décorée avec son mari, c'est aujourd'hui un chalet tout en bois entouré d'un jardin follet. Il détonne complètement avec la grisaille tristounette des ruelles de Dongshi, petite ville surtout remarquable pour ses immenses panneaux publicitaires. L'intérieur est un joyeux pêle-mêle de poteries, bibelots et boiseries, qui évoque la forêt peuplée de lutins et d'esprits des dessins animés de Myazkaki. Des tatamis, tableaux, plantes vertes, il y a tout sauf  du plastique et du béton; bref pas un poil de conformisme. Mais ce qui est troublant dans la roulotte de Linda c'est qu'il n'y a pas de tenture indienne, de calumet de la paix ni de rythme lancinant. Car ses voyages initiatiques, elle a préféré les faire ... en Europe, où elle a vécu plusieurs années. Eh oui, pour les Taiwanais c'est évidemment beaucoup plus exotique que l'Asie ! Elle en a rapporté une passion pour la peinture de Jean-François Millet ainsi que pour la musique française.

Morale de l'histoire, les taiwanais qui connaissent bien la France ne sont pas ceux qui peuplent la fraicheur éclatante des grands magasins. Ce sont les artistes, les rebelles, les baba-cools... Ce week-end, ces quelques rencontres m'auront apporté un nouvel éclairage sur mon propre pays.

Taichung Jazz

I have not been to Taichung county many times, but the more I visit this place, the more I like it. Last Sunday I joined Linda and George to the Taichung Jazz Festival closing session, which was a fantastic concert. Truly, I have never had the opportunity to see the Richard Galliano Quartet in France, and their virtuosity was just stunning. Their were followed by the german Stouxingers, great funky performers with amazing voices, and the pulsating brazilian Aseana Percussion Unit. The kind of concert after which you want to trash your old CD collection ... and most surprisingly this was all for free, located on a huge grass square in the middle of the city.

This concert confirmed the excellent feeling I had last year when I visited the Science museum, the China Medical Hospital and other parts of the new city with my wife. As a graduate of Taichung university, she could appreciate how dramaticallly the place has been transformed in the past ten years. The result is a pleasant human scale environment combining the energy of taiwanese towns with parks, cultural places and space. It is really appealing for the families who wish to escape the arrogance and overpricing of Taipei area for a better lifestyle and sunny winters.

This happy transformation certainly takes root in a long-term concern to enhance the living environment, and this was confirmed when I discovered the Dongshih-Fongyuan Bicycle Greenway (東豐自行車綠廊). This bicycle route lies on an abandonned railway track, whose tunnels, bridges and banks have been reconstructed for the pleasure and security of bikers and walkers. The route crosses scenic rivers, lovely fields and peaceful countryside. No need to say that the route has become extremely popular and that week-ends should only be recommended to walkabout fans. But what surprised me most is that this old railway was transformed as early as 1991, which is pretty ahead of the bicyle craze and of the tourism ambitions of Taiwan. In that respect, I consider Taichung county to be in the vanguard of lifestyle improvement in Taiwan!

我上上個禮拜天去台中參加爵士音樂節。音樂家沒有都一樣的技藝、可是他們都有很多精神。因為即席而作是爵士音樂的性情、所以爵士音樂又高興又娛樂。我去過別的音樂會、音樂家說：“人人都喜歡聽有名的歌、我們就總是唱一樣的歌、就覺的很麻煩“。爵士音樂家沒有哪麼問題、因為即席而作、所以他們從來沒重複。音樂家不麻煩、音樂就很精神！

雖然騎腳踏車和創作音樂都不一樣，但是騎登山腳踏車要求有點即席而作。雖然我準備我的旅行，但是我通常不清楚道路或者步道的情況。因為颱風破壞道路，我通常不知道可以不可以騎道路。比方說，在大雪山林道，橫嶺山隧道的前面有很多小林道。我計畫騎橫嶺山步道，然後連接別的林道回到大雪山林道。橫嶺山步道真美麗，經過最好看的樹林。前面三個半公里很有意思，可是以後沒有步道了，要騎階梯下去。階梯的下面是我打算騎的林道。可是這條林道上植被很高，就不可以騎！我就必須繼續騎橫嶺山步道，差不多兩個公里有很多階梯，就不怎麼有意思。然後我見另一條步道向出雲山苗圃。我選騎這另一條步道，就發現這裡沒有階梯了，騎登山腳踏車很有娛樂！
