越野登山腳踏車台灣地圖 Map of off road cycling in Taiwan

Large gentle dirt roads as well as narrow super steep singletracks. The Belvedere is a really playful area, including some challenging ride exercises.

The last time I rode to the Belvedere area was last Saturday. I enjoyed watching the hikers doing fitness exercise after climbing from Taoyuan and a group of guys driving impressive remote control helicopters. This area is the northern limit of the Hutoushan park, and there are always some pedestrians on the Belvedere track. But here is wide enough for bikes and hikers altogether, provided that the riders watch out the people on the track !

However, on the first slide route #14 I have never seen any pedestrian. This short singletrack goes down a ridge which gets steeper and steeper, and finishes really super steep. The track is wide and rather smooth, however I don't advice to try it with slick tyres ! After the drop, the track is obstructed by silvergrass, then joins the Dead End route #16. Some riders prefer to shortcut by walking back on route #15.

The second slide route #15 should be tried before the first slide actually. It is shorter, less scaring, and joins directly the Dead End route #16 without ambush in the silvergrass. For both slides I advice to wear long pants, not only because of the risk to fall down, but because the grass is growing fast and now covers part of the tracks.

As suggested by its name, route 16 is a dead end. Beyond the stream, there is a private property with the nastiest species of watchdogs, I strongly recommend to avoid it. Since the route doesn't have much interest in itself, I advice to use it only to ride up from the routes #13, 14, 15. Its is actually really difficult to ride up, I tried it three or four times but never succeeded to keep my feet all the way long on the pedals. And the loop is short, less than 1km, so it's easy to do it several times. A good challenge to try again with better tyres !

Eventually, the Belvedere route #17 is a relaxing way to conclude your outing, the track is wide and the difficulties moderate. It's very scenic when the sky is clear. At the end, the track enters a forest and there is a path signed on the left. Follow this path in order to avoid the final staircase by a lovely forest track.
