虎頭山 5-8 Hutoushan 5-8

UK flag

The 桃11 road is surrounded by historic military constructions. Besides the military camp on the butterfly hill, the road sides are surrounded by kilometers of barbed wired walls with watch towers and canon batteries. One place has a such high density of batteries that it really looks like a military fortress.

Since some people like to visit these batteries, there are paths between them. It is quite funny to ride these paths and take a look inside the old batteries. This is the "battery stroll" route 6, actually there are many small paths on a vast flat playground which is interesting to explore. Some wooden jump ramps have been set up and seem to be abandoned now.

Heading north-east, a horizontal path crosses an open area and a few more batteries, before joining a narrow concrete road falling down to Fenwei St through the forest. This is the route 5. "battery track", and can very well be used to ride up the hill (12% slope).

Route 7 "Helmet Compulsory" is not easy to find. From 桃11 pass behind the first battery, then turn left in the direction of East. 100m further the path reaches a clear area, with an electrical line on the left. There are two electrical posts visible, target the furthest one and cross the bushes on little a path to reach it. The path is then more visible and starts to fall down the hill. This route is not really hard to ride but there are so many trees and low branches that it is really hard to stay on the bike. Especially when you are as tall as me !

The route 8 "Jump Avenue" follows the 桃11 road to the south then passes abandoned fields. Most of the route is smooth and easy, except two or three sections with short but difficult obstacles. There are two branches that join each other further down. The left branch is equipped with a series of jump ramps, hence its name. If you decide to take the jumps, this is a much more difficult option, but they can very well be avoided. After the jumps lane, the branch crosses a pit, turns right, then crosses a second pit.
